Can you describe how Katy looks and feels for a person that has never lived here?

Do residents maintain their homes and lawns? Are there dramatic differences between different neighborhoods or zip codes? Is there a dominant architecture throughout the city?

Residents are responsible for their lawns, however most hire a lawn crew to do weekly maintenance. Master planned communities have deed restrictions that residents follow. The governing body is the Home Owners' Assiciation. There are somewhat dominant architectures throughout neighborhoods but many differences in various parts of a city. The primary value in deed restrictions is maintaining good home values.

This is a really good question for me because we moved here from out of state...and lived all over the Country. The Katy area south of I-10 is a beautiful group of subdivisions and Master Planned communities that run seamlessly into each other. The trees, lakes, parks, schools, and shopping options are all freshly built and fit nicely into the landscape. The Medical centers (Katy is known as med center west) are located throughout the area and the 3 area malls have lots of shopping and restaurants. You will love it!

Ohh, I can anser that since I describe to my friends back home in Los Angeles. I tell them it's the Universal Backlot, you know, the one that looks like the perfect suburban neighborhood. All of the sub-divisions and master planned communities have done a wonderful job in creating beautiful living spaces. While many are traditional, you will also find many mediteranean homes in the area. There are lots of lakes and walking/biking paths. Everything is very pretty here and there are neighborhoods that appeal to everyone. I particularly like taking out buyers from out-of-state (as we once were), since I remember the awe of seeing what our money could buy here in Katy. It's a great place!

Architecture is very Traditional Texas. Because most neighborhoods and Cities surrounding Houston do not have zoning...subdivisions rule. They have set rules and you must maintain your lawn, trees, fences, etc.. or they will do it for you at your cost! All three zip codes we work (77450, 77494, and 77094) are in South Katy and are very well maintained throughout.
