HOA have a lot of power. I know that I have worked with several different associations that had similar rules. Some did not allow any kind of signs. Some allowed signs in the window but not on the outside. Some allowed almost anything. However, as has already been stated, this really is a legal issue that needs a legal professional to answer. In addition, you need to be aware of conforming with state and federal laws as well.
Please keep my e-mail address below. I'd love to know what your attorney says.

As Realtors, we are not allowed to give legal advice. I would suggest that you consult a good HOA attorney and discuss this with them. I would caution you that our local city, county, and state laws may or may not prohibit this action, even if your covenants allow it, so be certain before you choose to act upon this. If you would like the names of three good firms/attorneys in the Knoxville area, please email me and I will get you them and you can consult with an experienced professional.
