The answer is no. A HUD home comes as is and if you are interested in putting money into it yourself before you actually purchase the home aka "close" then you risk losing your money if the transaction heads south. As the other answer says HUD homes typically need a good amount of TLC but there are diamonds in the rough in some cases. If you find one and would like to see it I would offer some honest insight to any home in our area.

Thanks and happy hunting.

Hi Karen,

Normally on HUD owned homes, its up to the buyer to make any and all repairs. You will also need to have a pre approval letter to submit with any offers. Based on my experience here in the Elkhart area, most will need new flooring, new paint, appliances, and the repairs could also include new windows, doors, and trim, it just depends. If you are considering such a task, be sure you are up to the work involved and have deep pockets to pay for it all. You can make money on them, but you have to be smart and do not over improve them for the neighborhood. You need to find a buyer agent to help you find the right one for you! Look for the best neighborhood with the worst house and you should be fine!

I used to live in Fort Wayne, its a nice town!
