I am looking for a 2-3 bed, 2 bath townhouse, condo in a smaller bldg in the Arlington / Alexandria/Reston VA area within walking distance to a metro. I have pets - dogs, what would you suggest and about what would I need to spend to end up in a good area. I plan to purchase in the next 3-6 months and will be moving in from the Gulf coast of Fla.

What you will need to spend depends on the area that you select to live in.. There are lots of condos near the metro in Arlington, but for they can run in the $500,000 range. Reston is probably less expensive and there is a metro stop there. However, most condos and townhouses are at least a mile from the metro . There are lots of price variations, depending on the size and location . Alexandria also has townhouses near the metro, but the price also depends on the size and location. The best way to determine where you want to live is to come for a short visit to see what works best for you.

C - Perhaps it is best to let us know where you'll be working and what is bringing you to the area (ie. family, etc.) that should be considered. For general ideas, feel free to use the Home Search option on my web site - there should be lots of photos and it should help you a lot.

There are two-bedroom condos on the metro in decent neighborhoods for under $200k. There are also 2 BR condos on the metro for over a million. So the truth is you can find something as cheap or as expensive as you like. Determine what you want from your home, i.e. your commute destination, amenities, neighborhood, then consult a local expert. You'll have no problem finding something in Northern Virginia.

In this market the prices will range quite a bit. Its hard to address what a "good area" is and will only be determined by you after looking at the properties but on average many of the condos range from the 300's to 500's depending on where you want to be. The key thing to keep in mind is the condo fees which can range from a few hundred to 700 or 800 and could have an impact on your qualification. If I can be of assistance please feel free to get in touch with me.

I often work in Arlington and would happy to show you what is available in the area. There may be something for as little as 300k; but that is probably the very minimum. Feel free to contact me if you are interested at 703.244.3971.

Those three areas are some distance apart ... you'll likely get more for your money in Reston since it's farther from DC than Arlington and Alexandria. Unfortunately, nothing in Reston is close to a Metro station ... at least, not for at least 10 years.
