Lots of good suggestions have been posted. Given the rising gas prices, I'd suggest staying close to public transit rather than highways.

The Center City District has a new map showing all city and suburban transit lines. You can also access good information on the Septa web site. If you would like a copy of the Center City District Transit Map, contact me: MoveSmarter@CBpref.com

Glad to help you!

Your price range opens you up to a lot of areas in Philadelphia - specificallly Northeast Philadelphia and South Philadelphia. For a smaller home, you could also go closer to center city in the likes of Fishtown and so forth.

Are you still looking for a duplex, or a single? Either way, it really depends what you are looking for in terms of location. I like to stick close to I-95 and I would take you over to either the Port Richmond area or the Mayfair/Holmesburg sections to look for homes. Both areas have a supply in the 150 and below range and are good areas for commuters. You can do quick searches on my website.

Dear Brett,

There are many neighborhoods in Philly that would work for your price range. It depends, though, what you are looking for. There are small studio condos in Center City, 3 bedroom row homes in Overbrook Park and many other great values depending what you need. Tell me more about your requirements and I can narrow things down for you.
