Bodega Bay has been described as "A quaint drinking town with a fishing problem". Seriously - most of the 2000 homes in the area are used as a mixture of second homes & vacation rentals. Very few (10-15%) of the homes are owner occupied. There are very few jobs available out here, so many folks are retired, and a few commute. Most shopping & cultural activities require driving inland. Weather is mild, and usually unpredictable. This is NOT southern California coastal weather. A windbreaker would be more appropriate than a bikini. There is no downtown area, no fast food, no movie theater, and no mall. However, there are miles of beautiful beaches, great fishing, biking, golf, and hiking. And the air is fresh, and the people friendly (except a few - and we know who they are!) If you are looking to "get away from it all", but still be fairly close to civilization - Bodega Bay would make a great choice.
