Help the community by answering this question:

Evanston is not your typical suburb - it is a unique half city/half suburb town with a very diverse population and a diverse housing stock - single family from modest to mansions, town homes, vintage and new construction condos as well as rental properties. This is probably one of the reasons Evanston has wetheared the Real Estate storm failr well. It is a desirable place to live and play - situated on Lake Michigan it offers a lot of green and open spaces, very vibrant downtown with great restaurants, live music, art fest, as well as Northwestern University bringing people from all over the world to study here.

I have personally lived in Evanston fro the past 15 years and have been a Realtor for the past 8. I usually say that while you are having a beer at a local pub, you can have a Europen student to your left and a world reknown professor to your right and have a very stimulating conversation with both.

Quality of life is what you make it - but I am confident that Evanston is one of those places where everyine can find something for themselves - whether you like biking, jogging or boating, having fantastic suhi at the downtown Evanston restaurant, or watching independent or European movies at the Cine Arts here. You may choose to live close to the lake, or farther North in a family oriented neighbirhood with tree lined streets or be a part of a vibrant and condensed downtown with the new construction high rises - you name it it's here.

To commute to the city you may either choose to get to the highway (10-15 minute drive just to get to the ramp...), take big train Metra, elevated L, or jump on Lake Shore Drive and be on Michigan Avenue in 25 minutes (not rush hour).

I work and live in Evanston. It's a wonderful community... a little bit city, a little bit small town, with access to everything (EL, Metra, Culture, Theatre, Museums, restaurants).

We have a lot of great properties on the market, the commute to downtown is 45 minutes... and I don't honestly know the availability of jobs.

If you have a specific question, I'll be very happy to try to answer. Evanston is a great place to live, I've lived here for over 37 years.
