One of the best sources of historical artifacts is an abandoned hand dug well. At a point when wells became non-essencial it became the modern day "land fill." Anything that was unwanted found its way into the hole to eventually become "another man's treasure."
A quick and unofficial answer is to solve the problem in the same manner our ancestors .....However, we would recomment checking with the local municipality to see if there are restrictions that need to be followed or if a permit is required.
Thanks for the question.
