Congratulations you have already taken the first step. I am a local Real Estate agent that works with many local mortgage companies. Some of these companies utlilize a program that will show you the steps you need to take to be able to get a mortgage. First off I would connect with a reputable lender and have them run your credit report. Ask them to consult with you to give you a sense of direction to increase your credit score. Some may be simple fixes and others may need time to eliminate lates, bankruptcies and collection accounts. This will all depend on what needs to be cleaned up. Good luck to you.
