Depends what part of L.E.S, you can walk up E. Houston or hop on the bus that will take you Houston and 6th Ave. If you're on Essex St you can hop on the bus, M14 which goes across Essex and makes a left on 14th St across the city. You can walk up Houston or Grand St or any street that goes West and then on Bowery walk up Bleecker and that will put you in the heart of the village,or cab it on rainy and snowy days. Best of luck.

Peaceful weekdays and hectic weekendsThe area is filled with tons of boutiques and local restaurants. Everything you could ever want or need is right out your door step. Excellent and lively night life
There are tons of grocery stores in the West Village. The best part is that several are natural and organic grocery stores. You're also only a few blocks from the farmer's market (Mon, Wed, Fri and Sat) which is a huge plus. I consider it a little village or a mini London. It's one of the best areas to live, truth is I think it's the best as you are a skip away from Meat Packing, Soho, East Village, Tribeca, Gramercy - all walking distance. Also if you're into Organic, it's one of the best areas to find organic restaurants or organic juice bars.
Good luck with your search!
