Hamilton is a great area to live. The weather is incredible. The wind will kick up a little along the levee and on some of the hiking trails. Hamilton School is right at the Main Gate entrance. There is also the Novato Charter School in Hamilton. The high school for the area is Novato High School. Many things for kids and teens to do. There actually is a skate park in Hamilton as well as a community pool. You can walk to the Hamilton Market Place from anywhere in Hamilton. There is a Pete's coffee and a few nice places to eat. I highly recommend the Hamilton area for any family looking for the best on Novato living.... more
I live here and have found it to be a very close-knit and friendly community. The community center hosts meetings for the men's club, women's club and yacht club (which doesn't require you to own a yacht) the neighborhood is very dog-friendly, and living on the lagoon offers an unending panorama of changing light, waterfowl and tranquil views. The fact that it is at the end of the road makes it feel almost as though it is its own island, yet it doesn't feel isolated at all, as it's a short drive to great shopping and restaurants. Its perfectly flat terrain is ideal for walking and biking, and kayaking around the lagoons is a popular pastime. Many old-time residents sport license plate holders that say "We are unique...Bel Marin Keys" and I couldn't agree more.... more
As a happy and long time Hamilton resident, it's interesting how in 2010, competing Marin relators continue to make generalized statements which are mis-leading and mis-representative of our neighborhood.
Let's be clear, Hamilton Field was decommissioned in January 1976, nearly 35 years ago. In fact, most of us parents were barely out of diapers ourselves at that time.
Yes, 25 years ago, after the site was sold to a private developer, they asked the USAF to cleanup a handful of acres which had been used as dump areas. The USAF agreed and completed a multi-million dollar cleanup effort. Let's be even more specific, these cleaned up areas are on the outskirts of the over 700 acres that makeup the large Hamilton area. There is not a single home or neighborhood even built in these old areas.
So, it is ridiculous to suggest that you can't plant a fruit tree in your yard because almost a mile away there happens to be is a tiny parcel of land which, 40 years ago, was used as a dump.
Interestingly, every single city/county in the country has such dumps, only they don't even ever need to clean them up and nobody gives it a second thought. The fact that, years ago, the USAF did announce their effort to take care of Hamilton was "spun" into a negative, rather than applauded.
Maybe that's because the neighborhoods in Hamilton are some of the most modern in Marin. I can only suspect that the idea of a "Truman Show-ish" development perturbed many county traditionalists and so they set out to "bad mouth" the area at that time. Well, I don't know anyone in Hamilton who doesn't love living here, so years later, it has been their loss.... more
94949 includes Bel Marin Keys, the Country Club, Ignacio, Loma Verde, Hamilton, and Pacheco Valley...essentially Southern Novato. It's a better commute location if you're commuting to central or southern Marin or to San Francisco. 94947 is central Novato, and there is a varying variety of homes and price ranges. In general, most of the homes in this zipcode are within a short or reasonably short distance of the freeway. 94949 is northern, northeastern, and northwestern Novato with some areas being 10-15 minutes from the freeway.
All of the areas have homes of various ages, sizes and prices.... more
Novato is one of the best towns in Marin Country to raise a family. The schools are excellent and the surrounding communities get involved. Low traffic, plenty of nearby parks, and a local farmers market that is very kid friendly. The ourth of July parade really brings the communty together as well as summer movie nights (under the stars) in the downtown area. Come see for yourself. It's a very welcoming town.
