Ms. Buckman gave you a good answer. Your question is pretty generalized, and not sure what you want to know about the area.
For general information on a neighborhood, you might like to try the Washington Post site: http://www.washingtonpost.com/real-estate/neighborhoods/index.html
Another good website is www.walkscore.com to get a feel for the area, although it gives a large proportionate score to how close it is to mass transit. Woodridge is not that close to METRO stops, although most places in DC are admirably served by MetroBus service.
For the crime rate in an area, you are probably aware that real estate agents are not able to comment, because of ethical and legal reasons (crime is a random occurrence; we are not allowed to 'tarnish' a home by referring to an occurrence that is essentially random.) Besides, real estate agents are not policemen, and could easily be incorrect
In the past, agents often suggested that buyers contact the local police station to get information, but in recent years, police have been wary about giving that information out, since they have been threatened with legal action by developers. Instead, in DC, they have a resource, known as Crimemap. http://crimemap.dc.gov/ where you can put in addresses and get information. <But it seems to be down today.> So you can try https://www.crimereports.com/ or http://spotcrime.com/dc/washington which are a little more dated, but easier to use. (they also cover other cities and towns.))
A WORD OF ADVICE - People often are unaware of the crime statistics where they themselves live. Some very nice areas will nonetheless have elevated crimes of some kinds (For example there are often more car thefts in wealthy neighborhoods - thats where the nice cars are.)
So, always compare two neighborhoods in an area; the one you're interested in, and another that you know about. Even if there is a bias in the information (as for example how it assigns value to different types of data, it should be slanted for both areas)
I hope that helps. I think Woodridge is a very pleasant area with Detached and Semi-detached homes, some brick, lots of Craftsman homes (woodridge used to be on a main streetcar line.) with decent yards. It is pretty big though, and diverse. Some of the avenues have inordinate amounts of commercial traffic during the day, but most are lovely, tree-lined and shaded. They are a good investment, and nice homes!
Depends on the bank and on the buyer. We have a team dedicated to short sales but it still takes a few months or more to get them done. Some bank owned homes can close sooner but it is in your best interest to hope for the best and be prepared to have to wait to get it done. Some of these homes have value but you may be missing some homes that are not REO or short sale that have great value and you can close on them in 30 days and not have this kind of concern in getting the transaction done.
