Why are we answering questions that were posted 1, 2, 3, 4 years ago?

This would seem to be stupid and a waste of our time!

Out of Mack's explanations I'd think #2 is most likely. Plus I've noticed that there are some threads that the community likes to keep going, as almost like a chat room of some sort.

Some community members have suggested locking questions/put them in archives after a certain amount of inactivity, and I think that would be smart to do, say after 6 months of inactivity, as the information can be outdated by then. In an effort to not have the same verbatim question asked repeatedly, someone can always start up a new question and put the URL of the original question they had in the body of their question.

Because . . .

1. The question still has merit?
2. The answerer is new to Trulia and was looking for all of the questions in their area to answer?
3. The answerer is tired of playing Angry Birds?
