Think I'm stepping on toes? Well, I've noticed agents in California, Florida, New York answering questions specifically to North Carolina and other areas. Do we have this many experts in every market or do you guys just like giving bad advice since you don't know the laws or customs of the other states?
I do answer questions from other states if they are questions that can be answered regardless of geographic location. If the question has to do with legal, contract, or other area specific content then, I would not answer unless I could point them in the direction to find the answer. I see some that seem to intentionally provide erroneous information just for the fun of it to become a "top voice".
Plastic Surgery Site! That's hilarious! Exactly my point. I've been Realtor, licensed and selling real estate in 3 states. There are 47 I have not a clue about. I'm pretty sure, based on all of the Cali clients I've had in the past, our laws, contracts, and customs are very different.
I love trulia and its voices section is great to help consumers and also will add important site links to your website if you add your site to "web references." Clearly they wanted to also make sure consumers were gettting the best advice, that's why your location is next to your mug shot.
I have been guilty of this at times. If I notice that a question has not been answered in more than a couple of days, I try to find the answer for the consumer...usually by referring to a website. I usually say something to that effect before I make the attempt to help. Gotta run....I'm also answering medical questions on the plastic surgery site!
Wouldn't you guys like to know who gave us ALL thumbs down marks? What a turd. Their toes must be a little bruised.
Well stated. Some people just like to talk and give opinions.
I guess I'm not the only one questioning this practice. I'm suprised if some don't even read the question. Granted, I'm not throwing everyone under the bus and its clear those who have posted here already aren't the ones I was referring to.
On well, time to go onto the Montana section. I bet there are some unanswered questions there...
JUST KIDDING
More than something to just think about. There is also the question of interfering with the agency relationship of another agent (NAR Code of Ethics) and the question of operating outside your area of expertise (again, the code). I try to concentrate on Arizona questions or very general questions, ones that have very few or no answers...or the fun ones! I personally love the intellectual stimulation of some of the questions/threads...much better than TV! But I would also throw out that there should be a lot less of "you need to lose the agent," especially when we have so little of the facts at hand...
Hi Jonathan,
This question was discussed not too long ago here: http://www.trulia.com/voices/Using_Trulia/What_do_pros_think
It's called "First Answer Mania"!!! and how to increase your Trulia ranking! I'm amazed at those who answer a question just to answer the question. Now that we've rid ourselves of the "ranking" system maybe we'll have folks answer area specific questions and not those needing "local knowledge"!! Good point!
I just think the service would be better to consumers if we stuck to the areas we actually had knowledge in. After all, I don't sell real estate in California so any advice I would have on agency there would be based on my experience here in North and South Carolina - which may or may not be the same. Just something to think about
