Trulia, please answer this question

I just conducted a search for my new listing in Grass Valley, CA (10858 Conifer Lane) and noticed that the website in the broker column is not mine. It's not even my company. Why does Trulia not show my website???? I don't think I want all the traffic to go to another agent's website just because he has my listing on his site because he gets all the listings from the MLS.

Hi Emily. As you can see from Sylvia's answer, my listing was indeed on Trulia with a link to the other agent's site. I checked yesterday afternoon and could no longer find the listing at all on Trulia. I think what is happening is that the http://www.wsierra.com site feeds all new MLS listings to Trulia as that agent's listings. I believe this happens because the site has a hot listings function and it shows all the new listings for Nevada County. Somehow, these new listings must be treated like the agent's listing on his website and be fed to Trulia as that agent's listings. When the new listing is no longer on the hot listings page, it also disappears from Trulia. The problem is that now my listing that was entered on my Point2agent site does not seem to be picked up by Trulia as a new listing. I also have a land listing that I can't find on Trulia. The address is 14599 Greenpeace Lane, Grass Valley, CA. The listing was created on my website nearly 1 month ago. Any idea if there's a problem with the Point2Agent feed to Trulia?

Hi Ute,

I haven't been able to find this particular listing on our site. When I search by the address I'm taken to a page that shows assessor data for the property but no current 'for sale' information. This is the page in question.

If you are still able to find the version of the listing with the incorrect site please access the link below and send us an email with a link to that listing so we can investigate the issue further.

Thank you,

HI Ute.
I had this happen to all of our company listings earlier this year. The broker site that was credited was a reputable broker. I phoned him, and he was not aware. He had instructed his outsourced tech support to upload their company listings, and the tech support did not understand IDX vs. their listings. As a result , the well intended techie loaded all lisitngs that came through their IDX feed. In the case for us, the broker was very apologetic, addressed the situation internally, took corrective action, and followed up me 3x after the fact. I suspect some instances are errors, and I believe it was in the experience described above. Unfortunately, there are probably instances that are intentional. :-( I approached the broker directly and without accusation, reminding myself not to become angry prematurely. Our situation was remedied quickly, and I hope you are able to achieve the same result. Good Luck!

Diane and Sylvia, thank you for your input. I understand that this most likely has to do with how the agent's website is set up. He has IDX search just like I do and I am thinking that somehow it feeds the new listings that come on the market to Trulia. I am not yet sure how it works, but I'll get to the bottom of it. It may be that I have to input the listing on my website and wait until it shows up on Trulia and then put it in the MLS. At least for now. I understand that he can have all the MLS listings searchable on his site, but when it's fed to Trulia as a listing, it should not have his website as the broker's site. It should definitely be mine.
By the way, this listing was never listed through him or anyone else but me in the past 6 years. My client bought it in 2001 and it was never listed with anyone but me since then. So I know this is not a matter of Trulia catching up to a change in the listing. Thanks again for looking at the listing. I'll keep you posted about what Trulia has to say about this. Diane, I would greatly appreciate if you could find the e-Pro blog or direct me to the blog so that I can search for it myself. I don't want to take up your valuable time with my problem.

Ute. This is happening on websites all over. The e-PRO blog talked about it in detail earlier this year. This is what I remember. Apparantly, if you IDX your listings, agents are taking credit for them on numerous public sites. I haven't heard anyone complaining about this on Trulia yet, but it was a major problem for FL agents. I'll see if I can go back to find the original posts from the e-PRO digest and refer you to them.
I sincerely hope Trulia will address this and not let this happen here!

Sorry, Ute:

And your pictures look much nicer too - I went to both Trulia site to see what you are talking about and then went to your site to check on your listing.

I know I am not Trulia, but I wonder if this house listed by the other agent before? I do know it takes a couple days to get listing on Trulia, maybe it's not there yet?

Sylvia
