Hi Bigred,

Thank you for your question. On Trulia, you can see recent sales in Tyler via the link below. Texas is indeed a nondisclosure state so the information isn't public by default, but home-buyers can choose to make their transaction public - hence we do have some sales records in Texas.

If you're looking for information about recently sold homes in another area, perform a search for that location and then check the 'Recently sold homes' box under the Listing Type filter on the left side of the search results page.

I hope this helps you.

Best Wishes,

County Clerk of Smith County, Texas serves as the record keeper for the official Public Records involving real property and records all documents for County Court.

Does Texas make Deeds public record, or no?

One Texan on this question says Yes, another says No

In most Common Law States,
even if the Parties to the Deed try to conceal the purchase price by using legal phrases such as,
"Ten Dollars and Other Valuable Consideration",
you can still see the Documentary Stamp Tax (Transfer of Ownership Tax) on the Deed.

Simple arithmetic using the amount of the Documentary Stamp Tax on the Deed will determine the price.

Texas is a non disclosure state which means that the sale price of a home is not a matter of public record. This information can be obtained from a Realtor when there is an agency agreement between the agent and the buyer or seller as a matter of advice on a making a purchase. If you are looking to purchase a property and want to know what the current owner paid for the home when they purchased it then you need to enter into an agency agreement with a real estate agent. Beware that the price paid at the time of purchase will usually give little indication of current market value of the home and a Realtor will be able to give you a better indication of current market value. If you would like more information on this, just give send me an email Charles@EastTexasRE.com or call 903-714-0112.

No, you don't want to contact the appraisal district, more than likely they are not going to know what the property sold for. They could find out as its a matter of public record but unless it sold for less than appraisal value they will not know that because they don't check into it. So the only real way to know is to contact an agent or do your homework yourself and go to the courthouse. Just let me know what exactly you want to accomplish and what area and I'll be happy to look into it for you.

Actually in order to answer your question, you need to be a little more specific as to what your asking for. What is it that your trying to accomplish and then it'll be easier to guide you in the right direction.

Easiest thing to do is ask an agent. They should have no problem telling you. You can even call into a real estate office and just ask. Not sure how it is in your area but here we are able to get onto the tax appraisers web site and just type in either owner name or address and all the history behind the home will appear- including sales price. Sometime governement records are a few weeks behind so if a home just sold it may take up to 8 weeks before it appears on their website. Hope that helped!
