Hi, I have lived in Union since 1992. It has become a very diverse town over the years. There is a mix of ethnicities ranging from Italian, Portuguese, Brazilian, Asian, Indian and Latino. Your child will have a great group of friends from all backgrounds. The area is very safe despite being near Irvington. Nothing to fear. Depending on where you move to in Union, you can border Roselle Park, Cranford, Springfield or Kennilworth...all of which are very good towns. As for the school system, unfortunately some have gone down in ratings over the years. Elementary schools and middle schools in town are still ok in my opinion, but the highschool isn't up to par. If you have young children then take the opportunity to save so that maybe they can enroll in private school if Union Highschool hasn't gotten better by the time they are older. Like I said before, this is in my opinion (I'm a mom to 2 young boys myself). Hope this helps.... more
