I believe the question pertained to the zip code 10548 which is Montrose. This is on the Hudson line.

I'm not sure that I truly understand the question. I am assuming that you are looking to be close to NYC (Grand Central.) There are three major lines. Harlem, Hudson and New Haven. Approaching a daily commute from a practical standpoint, you should consider how many trains stop at a given station and at what times because this can have a major effect on the length of your commute. When I was teaching and working in NYC several years ago I had hours that were very variable. It was a God send to have 3 trains per hour going into White Plains even off-peak. If I was rushing for a late night train and was just a couple of minutes late, I knew that I wouldn't have cool my heels at Grand Central for almost an hour for the next train. Here is the metro north website. You can download a PDF of the timetables as well as other information.

The Cortlandt station and the Peekskill station are in the same zone so they are the same price to travel to Grand Central. That being said, if you are commuting to Manhattan you can purchase your monthly pass a t the station. Also remember that if you purchase a ticket on the train it is more expensive than if you purchase your ticket at the station or ticket machines. A surcharge of $5 or more is charged, above the ticket price, if the ticket is purchased on board. I have this on good authority. I am married to a Metro-North train conductor.

A subsidiary of New York State's Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Metro-North is recognized as one of the nation's preeminent railroads. There are three main lines east of the Hudson River--the Hudson, the Harlem, and the New Haven, which operate out of Grand Central Terminal in New York City.

With respect to the closest station to Montrose, it is a toss up between the Cortlandt Station (to the South of Montrose) and the Peekskill station (to the North).
