Hi Andrea --- In addition --- you can now take the high speed commuter train into NYC from the new Ramsey Station on Route 17 (very close to Route 202). There is plenty of parking in the parking deck and trains run very often both locally and fast service. I have also taken the park and ride from either Ridgewood or Paramus and the bus into mid-town during commuting hours runs fast and often.
For your reference --- see --- http://www.njtransit.com/sf/sf_servlet.srv?hdnPageAction=TrainTo for exact public train info. Or --- see --- http://www.njtransit.com and click on the bus link for info bus schedules.
Good luck!
Hi Andrea,
I live in Ramapo River Reserve. Another alternative is the 1 hour express bus that leaves the rear of tthe CopperTree Shopping Center in the village of Oakland, about 5 minutes from this great neighborhood, at 7:00 a.m. and returns from Manhattan at 5:30 p.m.. This is the center where you'll find Staples, Zeytinia Foods, and the Regional Motor Vehicle Bureau. Other trains that may be more convenient than Ridgewood would be Ramsey, Glen Rock, and Fairlawn- all reachable in about 15 minutes from Ramapo River Reserve. There are a large number of NYC commuters in this development and if you were interested in carpooling with someone, visit my website, http://www.BeckyBoomsma.com, and post your interest in the Community Forum.
You can also drive into Ridgewood and take the train.
Hi Andrea,
From Oakland you have 2 choices, drive yourself in or take the commuter bus from downtown. Driving in during the rush hour will take you about 75 minutes, and closer to 90 minutes to downtown. If you take the 8AM bus from Oakland, it will take an hour and a half to get to the Port Authority, then a 15-20 minute subway ride to downtown.
If you don't have to leave during the rush hour, you can knock 15-25 minutes off the drive. I would have to say that commuting from Oakland will be a bit of a grind.
