Well, although this question is 2 months old..........just to join in - if you're not locked into Tenafly already - you might want to consider some of the commuter "train" towns in NJ ( for example - Millburn/Short Hills, Maplewood, Montclair, Chatham, etc - or, even W. Orange and Livingston which offer shuttle services to the train) - they offer the MidTown Direct train into Penn Station - a much shorter commute, ranging anywhere from 30-50 min, depending on the departure station.

Good luck!

Yes, 7.30 is traffic time, if you leave earlier and get to bridge or Tunnel 30-15 before 7: am you get there faster! Traffic starts right around 7:am! I would drive to the NY/NJ waterway (ferry) then park there and take ferry over, they also have a free shuttle, Since it is tuff and expensive to park and drive into NYC. The ferry it is such a great ride.

You have to monitor traffic reports to see whether the GW Bridge or Lincoln tunnel have the most blockage, but generally if you go over the bridge, down the West Side Highway and cut over to 27th & Madison AFTER getting through the traffic clogs in the 40's, you should be able to make it in about 45 minutes unless there is construction or an accident. Then you will need to get off and head downtown on West End Avenue taking advantage of downtown lights streams, cutting over gradually to Madison. Driving during rush hour is definitely not for the faint of heart, it would be better to get one of the express buses into the city, then make your way to your office from there.

non rush hour it is 20-25 minute ride
Rush hour is at least an hour depending on Accidents
If you leave at 6:30am you should be able to do it in less than an hour
