Looking to buy in the Shongum area of Randolph and am trying to get a feel for how easy (difficult) the commute to NYC will be. Understand Morris Plains train station is closest, but how is the traffic in the morning to get there (around 7am) and how is the parking? Any advice is much appreciated.

Dear Home Buyer - Having lived in Randolph and specifically in Shongum area, it is actually the easiest part of town to commute to the Morris Plains train station. ( about 7 - 10 minutes at 7am) Any later - around 8am - might take you up to 20 minutes. Another route commuters take in town is to go to the Dover Train Station - easier parking and absolutley no traffic. Shongum in Randolph is a great area as far as the community and schools. You have a choice of a variety of train stations - Dover, Denville, Morris Plains, Morristown or Convent Station. They are all easily accessible but you need to call each town to determine what their parking permit situation is. I do know that Morristown is adding a significant amount of spaces with their new parking garage so if nothing else parking at this location should not be a problem.

The trick is not the commute but the parking......Do you have a person dropping you at the station> If not call Morris Plains and request the information on parking passes. Are they available to non community residents? How much is parking and is it avialable on a daily basis? call Joseph Cecala, Jr, Councilman
973-540-0831who is in charge of Public Safety and inquire for best answer.

For the answer to your question, it is most direct to get to W Hanver then left on Stiles and wind your way to the train station on 202 and 53.

Hope that this information is helpful and if I can show you Morris Plains or Randolph let me know

Other train stations which may be slightly further, but against the traffic and therefore maybe in less time are those in Mt. Tabor and Denville. You may want to explore the towns of Denville, Morris Plains, Morris Township, and Morristown. It is apparent in this market, that they are the most desirable because of the commuting capability.

Hi Gr,
You're looking in a great location. The Shongum schools are excellent and the commute is good because you're by major roads.
I would (personally) probably take Sussex Turnpike all the way to the 202 - you come out right by the rail station. I've been that way around 8.30am and of course there is significant traffic at that time - but the distance is short. I would have thought that if you're taking a 7am train that you'll be fine.
Let me know if you would like any assistance on the area.
Jackie
