Yollie, Temecula is a very nice community and my family has very deep seeded roots and history there as my Father-in-law was the President & primary negotiator and master planner for the purchase of the Vail Ranch and the Master Planner for what was once Rancho California and later became Temecula. In fact we still have several RE holdings throughout the Temecula and frequent the area regularly.
However, there are also several nice areas in North County that you may want to consider as well i.e. in and around Northeast Vista, Bonsall, Fallbrook, North Escondido and even the Valley Center area. Right now there are still some very good values in these areas and it will knock off about 25 to 45 minutes of drive time.
Should you ever want to view some of these properties we would be very happy to introduce them to you. We're a full service family owned and operated real estate brokerage, general contractor and interior design company/s with over 100 years of combined experience in the San Diego market. We're also a Manufactured Home Contractor, Dealer & Developer should you wish to explore that as an alternative.

Hi Judy, like those before me mentioned Ortega Hwy is your next best option. It's two lanes most of the way and can be treacherous when it's dark, foggy or rainy.
You could go south to the 76 and cut over to the 5 but that will add at least an hour to your drive. You might trying using Google maps or Mapquest for alternative routes. Maybe the 15 to the 60 to the 605 might get you there.
Good luck... more
There is a VanPool from Temecula to MCAS Miramar and you can get $125 reimbursement toward the VanPool. So it makes it pretty much FREE for you.
I can help you with that too.

I really enjoy the drive on 76 to San Clemente. The road is usually wide open and it is a pleasant drive and much safer than taking Ortega Hwy. It usually takes about an hour. But be careful during rush hour because the stretch through Fallbrook gets backed up. To me it is worth the commute but it is a personal decision. Let me know if you have more questions I would be happy to get more specific depending on your needs.... more
My husband has been doing this exact commute for 8 yrs and is sick of it. It takes him 4 hrs daily. He leaves our 3rd car at the Oceanside Train station and then gets on the train to Sorrento Valley where a Company shuttle takes him to his office If you want to get about 130,000 miles on a car in a few years and do not care about the depreciation than drive in and deal with the headaches. When he has to drive in being he might have to leave work early for an appt, the drive back to Temecula is a litte over an hr with no hiccups. Good Luck. By the way His commute is worse than my anyone we know including the family we have in Chicago and New York! Temecula needs some high paying jobs here that match more people skills.... more
