Carl,
If you're looking specifically for online outlets, I've posted rentals before on Kijiji.com also (an ebay owned website) and received good response there. People do still check the local papers though so don't discount those either.

Carl, a friend of mine in Chicago suggested the marketplace on Facebook. This website is getting a lot of press these days and people seem to be using it.

Absolutely. The first site you want to do is obvious Craigslist. This is by far the best site for rentals. You want to make sure you refresh your post during the evenings around 5-6PM, so the people coming home from work and searching for apartments can see your post close to the top. Posting on Sunday night is a huge move too. That's when you get the most traffic. Besides Craigslist, check out:

-Postlets: This will post your listing on Trulia, Zillow, Hotpads and a bunch of other sites.
-Domu.com: This is a local site only for Chicagoans. You have to pay to be up there. But I've rented a couple places through this site.
-Facebook: If you have a large network, this could help too.

If you list with a Realtor, they can put in on the MLS. In this market, it is common to do this with rentals. You can contact me at 708-692-1841 if interested, Melissa Somone RE/MAX Market

HomeOwners can advertise homes for sale, rentals and vacation rentals by uploading their UNLIMITED digital photos to TourByOwner.com ...Affordable virtual tour pricing includes FREE hosting for 60 days and your virtual tour link is available on line 24/7 for copying and linking to other web sites like http://www.vrbo.com. The TourByOwner.com web site charges for tour production/hosting, online flyers and yard signs only…in some areas they have photographers. There are NO add on charges for how to books, newspaper advertising and lock boxes… also there is NO Realtor flat fees/MLS charges. If you want to do your own marketing, like running adds in the newspaper, you can write your ad to say: Go To TourByOwner.com ID XXXX to tour my home for rent/sale. Finally private owners can have a high quality affordable on-line virtual tour, similar to what real estate agents use…it is safer and you don’t have to wait around for no-shows! Check out TourByOwner.com! Free Activity Tracking Reports too!

Carl - Craigslist is awesome because tenants can work directly with owners. The MLS gets more exposure. If you are trying to rent a home, I would list it. It is cheap. Some agents will list your rental for as little as $500. Best of luck!

Thank you Megan and Stacy. I will try these sites as well. I usually have good luck with Craigslist but I figured new sites have popped up.

Megan, I'm from San Diego (San Marcos) and miss it about now with a blizzard about to hit us any hour now!
