Utility costs depend on too many factors to give an "average". Which utilities? Electric, Gas, water, etc. These are all based on an individual family size, size of home, how much cooking, laundry, heat settings, air conditioning settings etc. These are parameters that individuals/families set up depending on their own personal preferences.
Other "utilities" that many people think of are cable/satellite/internet and again its all about choices.
When you narrow down a home that you are interested in buying as part of your due diligence you can request the seller's to give you an estimate of that particular home's average utility costs for a year and most seller's will do that for a serious buyer. Again, you have to keep in mind the number of people in the home, their lifestyle and personal preferences and understand that you may have higher or lower costs based on your lifestyle, family size and personal preferences.
