I have 24 years of law enforcement experience. Remember - "safe" is a relative term. I have been in areas I felt totally comfortable and the person with me was scared. I have been places where someone else felt safe and I refused to stop the car due to fear of becoming a victim. 10 days later someone was shot in the head at that business while asking for directions (not in Florida).
We all tolerate risk differently. A friend of mine is in the process of buying a home in Palm Harbor. I have very little concern about my safety or my family's safety in that area, but that is no guarantee crime will not happen there. It happens everywhere. We intend to visit their new home often. Am I going to lock my car while we go out on the boat? Absolutely - I do everywhere.
Realtors are strongly encouraged to not comment on crime. I studied law enforcement in college, studied crime prevention, did planning and research for the department, and I ran a 911 center for several years. I am comfortable giving you my opinion.
