Getting pre-qualified in another state would depend on your employment. If you and the husband are retired then it will be no problem. Your social security/pension income will go with you wherever you move. However, if you both still work then it's a little bit trickier.
For any employment you must demonstrate to the lender that the income/job is stable, verifiable, and likely to continue. Before you could be approved for anything in the new state, you'd need to secure employment there in the same field(s) you currently work in and most likely begin working and receiving a pay check or two. Any new employment must be full time and ideally salaried or GUARANTEED 40 hrs per week.
Hope this helps!
