eWith respect to Roberta, her answer isn't exactly right about Aviara. You actually can be a "vacation owner" and have ownership to visit there 1 or 2 weeks a year. You can also rent out the reisdential portion of the resort, by days or weeks. They are more like your typical time share, in that they are like a condo, with kitchens, living rooms, etc. Both resorts are absolutely gorgeous, especially since La Costa recently invested something like 160 million in renovations! You can't go wrong in either resort- both have fantastic restaurants, pools, etc. One caution with LaCosta however- if you don't like crowds, make sure they don't have one of the big golf tournaments there when you want to go!

Both Aviara and La Costa Resorts are in Carlsbad, CA, but there are some significant differences. La Costa Resort and Spa is larger with two championship golf courses, a large state-of-the-art spa, The Chopra Center, clay and hard surface tennis courts and several pools. La Costa also offers private sports and golf memberships. The Four Season's Aviara Resort is strictly a luxury resort facility, with no private memberships available. It offers a manicured championshop golf course, spa, time share residences, and fine dining. Both resorts are world class and could not be more perfectly located!
