Captain Cook and Kealakekua neighbor each other. Kealakekua is the first town, when entering South Kona from North Kona. The banks here are American Savings Bank, Bank of Hawaii, First Hawaiian and the Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union.
Kealakekua is also home to the Kona Community Hospital, the Community College, the Culinary School and numerous businesses including gas stations and restaurants, to name a few. This is a rural community, with 70% being agriculture and farm land. With less than 6000 people living in Kealakekua and Captain Cook together, these little towns have some of the most accessible amenities to offer.
It is a 15-20 minute drive to Kailua-Kona and a 5-10 minute drive to Keauhou. Many people who live here take pride in going "downtown" to Kona, as least as is possible!
