Yes HWY 190 is one of the major highways in and out of Fort Hood and you can essentially go in any direction and pass up 3 or 4 local cities within 15 mins of each other.

Think of Fort Hood as the center and to the left (west ) of Fort Hood you have Copperas Cove, Lampassas and Kempner....then to the east of Fort Hood you have Harker Heights, Nolanville, Belton and Temple.

You'll run into congestion on the highway around lunchtime of course, but other than that, you're just 15 mins away

There are tons of stores close by! In harker heights there is a strip mall called 'Market Heights' which includes lots of your favorite restaurants, beauty stores, shoe stores, book stores, and clothing stores. Anything you need is about 10-15 min from Ft. Hood, since so many relocate here.
