Downtown is a legendary area for the small town feel. Mill Valley is famous across the country for its town center, with small streets, gentle hills and a mix of shopping, dining and just hanging out. The old train depot was converted in the famous Depot Cafe and Bookstore, where patrons just sit in the sun and watch the people stroll by. Mill Valley Market is also exceptionally god; there is also a Whole Foods and a Safeway.

Mill Valley prides itself on having great independently owned shops and restaurants. Small family run markets compete alongside Whole Foods and Safeway. There are lots of local places to meet friends for coffee or lunch. All the necessary services are located in town.

We have great access to fresh local produce. When I travel to other parts of the country, you can really see a difference in the quality of our goods. We have fabulous farmer's markets, and lots of variety, including organic products. Because the Bay Area is so innovative, we also have access to lesser known quality products and goods. We also have incredible art galleries, clothing stores including major worldwide couture designers from the world's best fashion houses, museums, great coffee and incredible restaurants that rival NYC.

FIRST ANSWER
Mill Valley is a sort of County Center of Marin County. It is close to all the towns of Southern Marin and therefore all the shopping and civic amenities of the various towns. Mill Valley itself has a charming town center with great coffee shops, restaurants, and healthy shopping choices.
