shopping is great, there are a lot of little stores where you can find almost anything you want. Union street and chestnut street have a wide variety as well as the Haight and Mission. Parking is the only issue, or lack thereof.

At least you can try and park on one street in the Marina and walk to the other...it's just a few blocks. But yes, parking is challenging in those areas!

It's has a huge variety - union square for top designer boutiques, the richmond district for asian goods, hayes valley for urban cool clothing, etc. great furniture stores (limn, room & board, roche bobois, etc.)!

Union Square at Xmas time!! Catch a cable car and go "halfway to the stars!" Best baseball park in the country with a drop-dead view, fresh crab, sourdough bread, fresh ground coffee from NorthBeach, ChinaTown, Golden Gate Park, Soma (no--not the kind from 1984!) and if that ain't enough--THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE will take you across the bay to Sausalito and northwards to Nordstroms! Plus we have the hippest, best looking Mayor!! My Mom was raised in NorthBeach, My Dad in the "Avenues" and I'm a San Francisco Treat!! (Not that there's anything wrong with that!!)

Halley - San Francisco is fabulous just like New York with trendy shopping, local designers and fabulous restaurants! The difference is you can reach anywhere in the city within 30 minutes tops! There are nail salons, cafes, cleaners, coffee shops on most blocks - very convenient. Our public transportation is great. The beauty of San Francisco is that within one hour drive, we have all types of microclimates that can lend itself to many outdoor activities even in the winter! We rival New York in terms of shopping ... Barney's, Neiman Marcus, Macy's, Saks Fifth Ave, Tiffany's, Gucci, Hermes, Channel, Louis V, H&M ... and that's just Union Square. Ikea is just across the bay bridge, as are other big box retailers. What's wonderful about San Francisco is the charm of our neighborhoods, each has a main shopping street with local boutiques, Union St, 24th Street, Chestnut St, among others, North Beach and Chinatown, means you'll find everything from num-chucks to fresh pasta.

There are shopping areas all over the City. From staid to the hip...little boutiques to large stores like Macy's - Neiman Marcus - Bloomingdales. You can shop from one end of the City to the other.
