For this type of question regardless of location I suggest you do some research on the amount of $ per student spent. Average number of students per teacher in a classroom and if your child is planning on a sport of some type contact the Athletic departments of that specific district to see if they offer the programs and how extensive that they are. I am a realtor near downtown LA. The best school districts in our area are San Marino, South Pasadena, and La Canada. La Crescenta is quite good in places, and the Silver Lake Ivanhoe elementary school has strong stats....Glendale stats coming out Oct. They are getting better!!

Hi, Amber. The Burbank school district is excellent. Some schools better than others. A friend of mine researched 22 private schools and selected the one my grandson went to. He went there for a few years and then she switched him to Burbank and has been more than pleased.

I have clients that will not look anywhere else but Burbank because of the excellent school district. Hope this helps!

I am familiar with LA County since I am a mother of 2 young kids & just purchased a home recently in Arcadia, approx. 15 miles east of downtown LA.


In my opinion, Rolling Hill Estate, San Marino, S. Pasadena, Arcadia some of those best schools. However, all the homes there are quiet expensive...I am talking about $1 million approx. except Arcadia which is a little more affordable (single house 3 bed 2 baths under 2000 sf approx. $800,000) but make sure it is Arcadia address & Arcadia School.

Some part of Pasadena has San Marino School too.

The best school districts in LA county are San Marino, La Canada and Palos Verdes. Unfortunately, the median price of homes in these neighborhoods are over $1million and there are a lot of Asians in San Marino and Palos Verdes. The second tier school districts would be Arcadia, Cerritos, South Pasadena, Beverly Hills, Santa Clarita, and Claremont .

Hello Amber, First of all, I think the "best" school districts are the ones which have schools that are a good match for your child. Looking at various school districts on the internet and the programs they have to offer would be a good way to start. But if you're looking for a grades 7-12 school, and considered one of the best in the country academically, take a look at Whitney High School in Cerritos.

Don't forget the Fullerton Union School District. Sunny Hills High School and Troy High School have made it into the "top high school" lists for years. Fullerton boasts a community that has 7 colleges in its city limits!

In L.A. County the best schools are found in Beverly Hills, Palos Verdes, and Manhattan Beach. Manhattan Beach is the most affordable of these areas. In Orange County you should consider the Los Alamitos School District and Irvine.

I was thinking the same thing. Mansur has a point. I would NEVER discuss schools like this. As a REALTOR we have to be careful, anti-trust laws and all....maybe things ARE very different in places other than NY, and apparently Maryland too.

City of Calabasas, Agura, are close to Chatsorth, Las Virgenes school district, great schools.

Saugus, Newhall, Hart, & Castaic Union School Districts, which is located in the greater Santa Clarita Valley area offers great schools. This area is growing rather quickly and it is nice to see new schools are in progress of opening to accomodate the families moving here just for the school districts. If you do a grade check on the greatschools.com site you will see all of the schools in the districts mentioned above have rates of 10's, 9's and nothing less than a 8. 10 is the highest you can get.

The Glendale Association of Realtors meets annually with the Glendale UNified School District to learn about the latest school trends and if you are considering Glendale I have some great information that might be of interest. One thing we learned was to check each school's school site plan, which explains what the school is doing to address challenges. By law each school must make that plan available.
