This essentially boils down to an "east or west" of 400 question, and clearly there are differences in charactor of the areas. Both are stable markets with many factors that you as a perspective resident, need to decide upon. The school perfromance will be similar, you're looking at two solid areas. Everything else is wide open and depends on what your objectives are.

Totally agree with you, Sandra. There are some in every situation (not just Trulia) that cannot or will not abide by the rules of the game. In real estate today, the really desperate ones are probably the ones who always sing the same tune on their reply, regardless of the question. I just try to ignore it, and hope the customers are savvy enough to read between the lines.

I thought that agents were not supposed to market their web sites and connections on this web site.
Trulia where are you?

The most recent post blatantly markets themselves instead of answering the question.......

Interesting question, Cynthia. Did you have coffee or tea this morning? There will likely be as many answers to your query as there are agents who reply. More information from you as to what you're looking to accomplish with your purchase would be very helpful in constructing a valid opinion. Good Luck!

Hi Cynthia,

Great question. But in order to know the answer, there needs to be a little more information gathered from you regarding your personal needs and desires.

Apparently schools are important since you categorized your question under Schools in 30004. Here is an article I wrote recently regarding the schools in Roswell and Alpharetta: http://positiverealestateprofessionals.com/jodismith/2009/09… You really can't go wrong either way.

I think where you and/or your significant other work will be more of a determining factor since the commute is always a huge concern for most people.

Both cities have a lot to offer and both are prestigious in their own rights. Finding the right neighborhoods that are not only close to a major road that will make your commute easier, but close to shopping, dining and entertainment as well.

Let me know a few more details about your needs/desires in the next home that you plan to purchase and I can more easily help you weigh out the pros and cons of living in Alpharetta or Roswell.

Have a wonderful evening.

Will need to talk to understand your situation and needs before helping you with that question. I lived in Alpharetta for 8 years.... and sell there and Roswell consistently.

My web site is http://www.ExpectMoreNow.com, you should contact an agent or broker that can help you narrow your focus. Best of luck.

Cynthia,

Great Question but definitely need much more detail to determine what is best for you. What are your needs for your next home, what are your desires for your lifestyle in within the community you select, are you looking for a single family home, townhome or maybe a condo????Each community has a lot to offer depending of where you locate within those cities. If you have chosen your realtor you need to sit down with them and get into the detail so you can determine what works best for you, also you need to determine how much home you want to afford by contacting a mortgage lender.

If you haven't contacted a lender or realtor feel free to contact me at your earliest convenience and I would be happy to help you.

Alpharetta is the more "prestigious" address and homes are more expensive. Roswell was established
long before Alpharetta and has a quaint historic district surrounded by some very luxurious subdivisions.

There seems to be a higher demand for houses in Alpharetta due to the fact that there are tons of IT people
working in what is now considered the "Silicon Valley" of the Southeast. IT industry has not been affected by the down turn of the economy hence the salaries support the purchase of a more expensive home.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance...
