If you have a child in grades 1-8 with learning disabilities, try Walbridge School. This school specializes in providing individualized curriculum and small class size (student teacher ratio of no more than 8:1) for kids with dislexia, speech and language issues, disgraphia, ADD, ADHD, and more. It is located on Madison's west side, at 7035 Old Sauk Road. Call 833-1338 or visit the website: www.walbridgeschool.com. Students come from diverse backgrounds and often with self esteem issues due to frustration with previous school experience. Once at Walbridge, many parents report "I have my child back!" The school also offers summer sessions in reading , writing, and math.

For public schools look into the west side, for private schools look into edgewood. In general, avoid the south of Madison (near beltline, allied drive, badger road). The East is the older side of town and has a more hippy feel, but I have heard poorly about the east high school from parents. The west has more of a suburbia culture. I enjoy living in the Vilas/Monroe St neighborhoods.

Hi Jason,
Madison has an excellent public education system so you really won't go wrong whatever your choice may be. Here is a link to the Madison Metropolitan School District site with district boundaries, academic reports, student/teacher ratio, ACT scores, etc.: http://www.athomein.com/ If you have further questions about schools or relocation please feel free to contact me. I live in the city and have a son in school. Welcome to Madison! Sophia Tue May 6 2008, 06:04 Web Reference: http://www.sophiashomes.net
