The crime rate is high because of the drugs and gang violence. However the crime is usually black on black crime which seems to be tolerated by the police department. The residents only expect change and will accept a change when white or asian peoples start moving onto the block. Most of the people on this block are relatives. If, four (4) or (5) of those townhomes were bought immediately, repaired and lived in, there would be very little crime because the dealers who now live on the block would not be so transparent and would have to go undercover. I was personally told by some of the black residents that they wont change until the 'white people' move in.

Socorro,

Google "Chicago Crime Map" to get some data. Also be sure to compare areas to feel are "safe" to areas you are interested in moving to.

The best thing is to visit the areas you are interested in at several times of day both during the week and on the weekend.

All the best,

If a buyer wants to know the crime statistics of an area, smart agents will direct buyers to the police department or other sources of information.

Sorry -- it's against the law for us Realtors to discuss crime. You should check out police reports, go to EveryBlock.com, and also drive around the area day and night to get a sense of it.
