Are the western branch schools racially diverse? do they have metal dectors and or security? I work for nypd school safety and want to relocate to towne park at goose creek and the western branch schools are the listed schools for that area. Some of the schools in nyc are dangerous and over crowed. i have children in high school and elementary school and need to know this infor concerning schools before i make the move. thank you.

All of the western branch schools are very divers. I graduated from Western Branch High School in 2008 and I have a sister who went to the middle school and she is now in the high school and neither of us have ever had any problems. While the schools do not have metal detectors there is constant security around the entire school to ensure safety both by trained security officers and police officials. I never felt unsafe at anytime during my schooling there.

Good Morning Happy 1959! I hope you and yours had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend. My sister's two children were graduates of the Western Branch School System and both graduated last week from Virginia Tech. My daughter recently purchased a home in Point Elizabeth so her children could go to Western Branch schools. (ages 11, 9, and 5) They will move into their new home June 26th. The school system has a wonderful reputation, and yes, it is racially diverse. I'm not sure about the metal detectors and security. The sports programs and music programs are great. I believe you would do very well there. If I can be of help please do not hesitate to call. I've helped quite a few folks relocate from New York! Best of luck and welcome to Virginia.

Hi Happy 1959. You have received great references from KK. The Chesapeake Schools have always had a great reputation and continue to do so. I am a graduate of the Chesapeake Schools and I have many buyers contact me asking for homes in the Chesapeake School division because they have already done their research and that is their school system of choice. I also vote for visiting the schools your children will be attending. The school principal and staff would be happy to take you on a tour and answer any questions you may have. Best of luck to you!

Dear Happy,

Obviously, these are all valid concerns about the quality AND safety of the school to which you send your children. That said, and it appears you already have a purchase in mind, why don't you look up the exact schools (by going to this school locator for Chesapeake: http://maps.roktech.net/Chesapeake/), and
then VISIT the schools your children will attend? There is NO substitute to gaining first hand knowledge.
Also, all schools have a website these days or a webpage from the school system,
in this case Chesapeake; check that out for these schools.
And finally, there are some websites where you can INPUT the name of the school and
they will give you ratings, advice and anecdotal comments (like http://www.greatschools.net, http://www.schoolmatters.com, http://hamptonroads.com/schoolzone/, http://www.schoolmatch.com). And
finally go talk to the neighbors in the neighborhood where you are wanting to buy.
I hope that helps.
