2. Substitute at that school (all subjects, not just English)
3. Go to the next English Department Meeting and meet the teachers so they get to know you.

I know this is a late reply. If you have not found a job by now ask about substitute teaching. I have talked to a few people who have done that and never had a day off. Of course they contacted several different school districts.

Many of the school systems have a section on their website with job postings. You just have to search a little.

My husband is also a teacher in Marshall County AL. You can go to the state website at: http://www.alsde.edu/TeachInAlabama/ and that will give you a list of EVERY job in the state that is open, if they listed it through the state department of education.

Many individuals work their way into a full time teaching position by serving a a substitute teacher initially.
