If you have not found what you are looking for, you might want to read the Trulia Real Estate Blog "What are the best Schools in Charlotte?" http://www.trulia.com/blog/dfisher/2013/03/what_are_the_best There is good data and info there on public, charter and private Charlotte area schools, including school district maps and school attendance zone look-ups by address for Cabarrus and surrounding counties. If you appreciate this answer, please give it a thumbs up, or if this was the most helpful answer, please say thanks with a best answer click.
My children attend these schools, so I can confidently say 28117, besides we enjoy a very low tax rate and insurance in this area compared to others nearby.
I will be happy to email info on available homes in this area if you are interested.
If your children are high school age and preparing for college, my opinion is that NC has better state colleges and universties than SC.
I have just moved to Charlotte and everyone talks about how the living cost is cheaper here and that real estate has not gone up much over the past years. All I can say is don't believe everything you hear. If you are looking for public schools in Mecklenburg county (Charlotte) stay in the areas 4 and 5. Union county has a good reputation, but it was too far out for me and traffic keeps getting worse.
As a realtor we are not allowed to comment on the schools, but we can direct you to useful resources so you can do your own research. Please visit my website http://www.TeresaQuinan.com with useful links to Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and Union County Schools. Please contact me if you would like me to set you up on an automated home search. If you know your price range that will help you narrow down which area you can afford then you can research the schools in these areas. Call me if you have any questions all my contact information is on my website. Good luck.
If I can help you further, please don't hesitate to contact me.
