Junemommy, Other/Just Looking in Birmingham, AL

What are the best public schools in the Birmingham area? Neighborhoods? Do the districts have gifted programs?

Asked by Junemommy, Birmingham, AL Tue Apr 9, 2013

I have 4 young children including 2 in grade school. Both test in the upper 90th percentiles so we would be looking for school districts that accommodate high achievers/gifted leaners. Thanks!

Real Estate Agents are not allowed to comment on a variety of topics. The Fair Housing Act restricts the information that can be provided by a Real Estate Agent.

Off Limit Topics Include:
• Crime Statistic (including questions about whether a neighborhood is good or bad or safe)
• Demographics
• Environmental Concerns
• Household Income
• Religion
• Schools (including questions about how good or bad the school is)

Determining to the answers to questions on any of the topics listed above is something that you would need to do on your own. It is up to the individual to make their own determination about a specific area. If a Real Estate Agent were to comment on such a thing, it could be steering which is a prohibited act.

We have several excellent school systems. Mountain Brook and Vestavia are areas sought after because of their academic excellence. Hoover and Homewood also have excellent reputations for academics. Shelby County Schools have excellent schools. The above are public schools...there are also excellent private schools in the area..Briarwood Christian, John Carrol Catholic School.

Yes I've read about Mountain Brook and Vestavia. Unfortunately those areas are way out of our price range. We have a fairly modest income for a family of 6 so we are looking in the $200k ballpark.
