We are considering relocating to the Mobile area. Schools are of UTMOST importance. Our son will be in high

school Fall 2008. We also have heard the Eastern Shore of the bay is preferrable. Any and all advice is welcome. Thank you, Chris

Chris-I would strongly suggest that you look at the Eastern Shore. Since your question was asked in February you may have already made some decisions. If you haven't, and the school systems are that important to you, consider Spanish Fort or Fairhope. I also suggest that you look at Bayside, which is private, in Daphne-an excellent school. I work in all of these areas, as well as Mobile. also, check out the links Bill provided below. If I can be of any assistance to you, please call me at 251-367-3602. Hi Chris,

I have two kids who attended Bayside in Daphne on the eastern shore. We were very pleased with the small class sizes, amount of teacher involvement with the students, the opportunities they had to participate in all sports and many extracurricular activities. Bayside is college preparatory school, and most students go on to a university. It has an outstanding reputation academically. The number of scholarships won by the students at Bayside is amazing. It would be worth your while to check out Bayside!

Best wishes and let me know if you need any assistance getting relocated. Dan Therrell 251-510-8820

Hi,
In my opinion there are great schools in mobile and baldwin counties. I would say depending on if you want private or public would be the first step . In baldwin county bayside is a good high school and in mobile you have st. Paul's and Ums . Then you have mcgill in mobile as well.

Hi Chris, the others have already given some good info on where to look up schools.
I have lived in Baldwin County for most of my life and it is a great place to be. I have friends that live in Baldwin County and commute to Mobile. I guess it just depends on what is important to you.

Hi Chris,

Bill provided you with some great links for accessing school information, so I will not be repetitive. I can assure you that you have been well-informed. I am a REALTOR for both Mobile and the Eastern Shore area and it is a well-known fact locally that the schools in Baldwin County, and specifically the Eastern Shore, which includes Spanish Fort, Daphne/Montrose and Fairhope, are considered academically superior. Of the three, Spanish Fort would be the favorite followed by Daphne and then Fairhope. If sports are a real interest, Daphne is an excellent choice. It is not unusual for people to live on the Eastern Shore and commute across the bay to Mobile. The drive across the bay is about 7-8 miles and can be quite relaxing. I personally live in Spanish Fort and highly recommend it.

There are additional links on my web site regarding Baldwin County & Mobile County Schools, Chambers of Commerce, Things to Do, Helpful phone numbers, etc. Feel free to check these out and call or email me if I can be of assistance. We have some outstanding subdivisions to choose from.

Hi Chris,

After price of your new home, schools are the next most important item to be shopping for. It is good to see you have this right when so many buyers I work with don't.

I always suggest to my buyers that they study the various national school web sites. Several of these will give you very specific information, including test scores, about the individual schools in your new community. You can also compare the schools were you are moving from to the schools where you are moving to. This should be very valuable to you in answering which schools are the best for you to consider in Mobile.

Happy viewing:
Be sure to also check out this site - it includes a state report card of various schools.

A national database of school demographic information can be found on the National Center for Education Statistics Web site. http://nces.ed.gov/index.asp Click on the "School, College and Library Search" tab at the top in order to view data including a particular school's student-to-teacher ratio or enrollment by race and ethnicity.
For a snapshot of academic performance and to compare schools, a prospective homeowner might browse the School Matters Web site, http://nces.ed.gov/index.asp a service of Standard & Poor's.
Another site, Great Schools, http://www.greatschools.net/ offers similar tools.

Also, click on my web site page at:

I hope these sites are helpful to you in determining the best communities for your family.
