Ardrey Kell School Systems (south side) is ranked as one of the top schools. However, if you are looking for something in the north end, I would check out Lake Norman Charter School...awesome.

There are a few good websites to find out about various schools in the Charlotte area. Some people like to look at http://www.greatschools.org and others like http://www.ncreportcards.org.

I personally moved here from Fairfield County in Connecticut seven years ago with three children school age and one about to enter school. I did a lot of legwork and found out soem information but to be honest with you what I learned most I found out from reading blogs about schools in areas I was intersted in moving to and talking to Realtors and people form the areas I wanted to live to get insights to schools specifically and websites to help me make a descsion onw hether i wanted to send my children there or not.

I have found the Charlotte Mecklenburg School system to be above average to excellent. I would be happy to discuss yoru needs and concners with the schools since I have children in High School down through elementary school... Welcome to Charlotte!

Charlotte is a fairly spread out, fragmented city. Do you have a specific area that you know that you will need to be close to, such as work? Email me a bit more about your move details and I'll help guide you through your relocation. I'd love to help!

Good afternoon, Steph:
You might want to read the below Trulia Real Estate blog "Which areas surrounding Charlotte would be a nice place to relocate?" which has a lot of information on the schools in our area. There are a lot of options for public, charter, magnet and private schools. If you have a full time agent with a Masters degree in Planning with Finance and over two decades of experience, working for you, you will likely do better in negotiations. I'd be pleased to provide that service. If you appreciate this answer, please give it a thumbs up, or if this was the most helpful answer, please say thanks with a best answer click.

Don't forget to look into the Magnet Programs as well, especially if your child has a special interest. I had 2 children go through the German Immersion Program and my youngest went through the Gifted & Talented Magnet Program, and is now a junior in the IB (International Baccalaureate) program at Myers Park High School. Some of the other magnets are Arts, STEM, Global, Communications, Montesouri, Languages, etc.

I feel like my children have all received a private school-quality education through the magnet system and for free! The website for the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools magnet program is:

Best sucess with your move - you and your family will LOVE it here!

I grew up in Edgemont in Westchester County; we have been here for 15 years and for us it was absolutely the right move. We settled in the south end of town.

Check this site for school report card information: http://www.ncschoolreportcard.org/
Some clients of mine also use this site: http://www.greatschools.org/

The biggest difference between the way schools operate here in comparison to Westchester is that the districts are county-wide, so it is possible that reassignments can occur. I can explain it in more detail at your convenience.

I would love to assist, please feel free to contact me anytime!
