Paula is right on. Decatur is a solid choice.

Dunwoody, Sandy Springs and Tucker all have some good schools.

But, why commute for 45 soul sucking minutes in our snarling town?

Why not Midtown?

Why not Ansley Park, Morningside or Virginia Highland?

Why not Inman Park or Candler Park?

Hi Caroline,
I am Caroline Gamma and a buyer consultant with Duffy Realty. I also live in the Vinings area but am an expert on E. Cobb where some of the best schools are along with reasonable home prices, not a bad commute, lower taxes, not to mention tons of great family amenities. If you have not already hired an agent , please do call or email me and we can get you set up on our BUYER REBATE program which provides you with full service expert representation along with cash back after closing. I am closing 2 buyers this week using it and one is getting $4260 back and the other $2200. No gimmicks, it is real and a great option for buyers. Hi Caroline,
I would suggest the Oakhurst area in Decatur. Great schools and easy commute to Midtown. Go to http://www.oakhurstga.org for information about the community and to http://www.decaturga.com for information on City of Decatur. I live and work in the area. Feel free to contact me anytime if I can help you.

Anybody new (2013) looking for good schools convenient o midtown? - - I feel like an expert cuz I just got done hunting for a school for my 6- year old. Assuming you want a public school (no extra cost) education, here's the list: Morningside, Mary Lin, Springdale Park, Charles Drew charter school (lottery), Toomer elementary (not bad) and any school in the City of Decatur school system. If you are on the north side of midtown, there's Morris Brandon and Garden Hills. Can anyone think of any i left out? Of course if you want to pay for a private education, then that's a whole 'nother post!

Dear Caroline:

Atlanta, Dunwoody, what I hear about the answers here are good. Did you re-locate from somehwere else? I am a Sr Mortgage Consultant for the last 17 years. What makes me different, we are a lender. We make all decision with in house Underwriting, closing, wiring. That makes buyers and realtors, both the buyer and listing agents happy to know a pre-approval is good with a direct endorsement lender.

I am here to assist you with any answers you may need. I would be honored to assist you with your mortgage needs, feel free to contact me.

Hi Caroline,
I am Sharon Pierce with Keller Williams Atlanta Perimeter. I am a resident of the Dunwoody area and have lived here since 1971. We have some of the top rated schools in the State. Dunwoody is conveniently located within 45 minutes of midtown, 20-25 minutes to Buckhead and just minutes from Perimeter Mall. The Mall has anchor stores, such as: Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Dillards and Macys. You are also minutes from great Restaurants. I would love to share more about the area with you. Please feel free to contact me.

Caroline,
I agree with several of the agents who have answered previoulsy. Price and house features (primarily size and number of bedrooms and bathrooms) will help us narrow down the searh area.

I can tell you that I grew up in the Buckhead area and now live in Decatur. The Decaur area has great schools and the price point is fantastic when you compare it to some of the other areas.

I would love to get more information from you about house preferences, time frame etc. I can also recommend several lenders if you need that as well.

Feel free to call me on my cell at 404-401-1460. You can search my site as well at http://www.amyweeks.com.

I would like to know some more info about price range and age of your child/children before I can give you a detailed report and suggestion about the area that would be the best match for you.

You need to come up with a price range, type and age of house and type of neighborhood before you would be able to pick the best location, or are you looking just to live in 30339 zip code.

Caroline,

Price will definitely have an impact. East Cobb, Dunwoody and Decatur have the best schools closest to Midtown and of those, East Cobb definitely has a higher percentage of top schools. These areas do vary quite a bit in terms of age, home styles, lifestyles, etc.

The age of your children would also impact which areas may be the best fit. You can visit http://www.h2realty.com/metro-atlanta-schools/ to see school rankings by elementary, middle and high schools as well as rankings of the entire feeder system.

We provide a list of all homes currently available in each area so you can quickly get a feel for what you can expect in each school district.

If we can be of assistance, don't hesitate to contact me.

Fortunately, Atlanta has many great neighborhoods north, south, east and west of the City. My office is in the midtown area and I live in the 30339 zip code (Vinings) which is northwest of the City. It takes me 30 minutes to get to work. But, first things first. Determine your price range and the features you need to have in your new home. That will automatically rule out some areas. From there, a good REALTOR should be able to guide you.

You can check us out at 14west.com and askew.com
