Question about Wayland grade schools.

Asked by Ciciclark82, Belmont, MA Fri Feb 15, 2013

I know there are 3 schools. Do they differ much in their focus (ie: arts, etc.) or in their approaches to learning? Do you have to live in a certain neighborhood to attend a certain school, or can you select the school that you want to send your child?

There are 3 grade schools in Wayland. Loker only does kindergarten and all kids go to this school. The other two schools are Happy Hollow and Claypit. Happy Hollow is on the south side and Claypit is on the north. Where you go to school is dependent on where you live. The break down changes some times, but basically if you live on the North side, you go to Claypit and if you live on the south side you go to Happy Hollow.

Both schools are good and both schools have their advantages. If you talk to people whose kids go to Claypit, they will say Claypit is better. If you talk to people whose kids went to Happy Hollow, they will say Happy Hollow is better!! They both teach the same cirriculum so there isn't a difference in terms of what the schools teach. The PTO is shared among the schools too.

Claypit is a larger school and has more students than Happy Hollow. That would probably be the main difference.

Any other questions, let me know. Both of my kids went through the Wayland Public Schools and got a great education. Both are doing very well in college and a lot has to do with what they learned at the Wayland schools.

Hi Cici Clark 82,

I would drive around and meet people.
Ask those who live there.
Interview the school professionals, coaches, etc.
Walk and talk.

The elementary school district map can be found here:

HOWEVER THIS FILE APPEARS TO BE BROKEN.

I found an older copy here:

Of course choosing a local real estate pro can help you save a lot of time.
(Not me, I'm on the Cape, but I can help you choose a local pro in Wayland if you need help.)
