graders. I am insisting school district/zone come first in our home buying choice. My husband does not feel my evaluation of the schools to be thorough enough to be able to really determine the best schools. I've been using state test scores, greatschools.com, and the school, district, and county websites (as well as talking with employees at those locaitons). I think I need opinions from locals to help state my case for the areas where we need to be looking. I'd picked Lammersville and Jefferson school districts, however I have noticed some other schools in Tracy, but haven't researched them further. Anyone have opinions/advice to share? We have not yet engaged a buyers agent so I know that will be a great resource, however we want to get our preapproval completed first. Thanks in advance!
I'm a teacher at a small K-8 in Tracy, so I'm a little partial, but I think we have a really cool school. It's the Performing Arts Magnet school, Gladys Poet-Christian (her last name; not a religious affiliation :). Our kids get to choose electives from art, dance, drama, technology, instrumental music, and choir. Most of our students come from the surrounding neighborhood, but because we are a magnet school, a small percentage of our students come from other areas by choice.
We are part of the Tracy Unified District, and we are working hard to get test scores up, but I hate it when test scores are the only measure of a school. We have a wonderful, dedicated staff, and a small, safe environment. I've been teaching there for 7 years, and can't imagine being anywhere else.
Good luck!
Hi Deanna,
You must have looked in all the right places because your information is correct. My husband and I were not able to have children so I am impartial and I will speak to what I hear about our schools in Tracy.
Jefferson School district is the desired district over Tracy Unified. This district only covers a small portion of city of Tracy homes and will include all south & east side rural county properties. If you want to be in this school district you will want to find as home south of Valpico Rd including all country homes south of Tracy city county lines. Everything North of Valipco will be in Tracy Unified.
Now, Lammersville is also mostly country properties around HWY 205 and west of city of Tracy county lines. The city of Mountain House also falls in the Lammersville school district at this time. Mountain House is currently talking about creating their own school district. As they grow in population, actually become self contained and have their own high school(s) I believe they will create their own district. Mountain House is a new city about 5 miles west of Tracy city lines that broke ground a couple years ago. At total build-out they will have 40,000 residents. They do have elementary schools but the kids do have to come into Tracy for high school until they have enough residents to support a high school. They have 2 planned in their general city plan.
I hope this helps you understand a little more about these 3 districts. I can be very confusing.
Deanna, you have done a great job researching schools. Most parents who live in Tracy, be they RE Agents or not, are going to say nice things about the school their kids are in, so that may not be what you are looking for either. I don't live in Tracy, I live in the next town east, Ripon. In your question you mentioned greatschools.com, I am not sure if you mixed it up with greatschools.net, but in case here is a link to GS.net, the site we have found to be most helpful. I have over 300 Agents working with me, and this seems to be their favorite. http://www.greatschools.net/search/search.page?c=school&lc=e I hope this helps. If I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to call 209-758-3113 or email thecoach@prucalifornia.com "Best of Luck" "The Coach"
