Need some advice for newlywed couple moving to Houston & looking at school districts/neighborhoods
We are moving to the Houston area & hear that Spring Branch Independent School District is the best public school district near downtown. What are some of safe and family-friendly subdivisions we should look to live in that feed to Spring Branch School District. What is the difference between Spring Branch Central/East/West. We love this area (west of Sam Houston Toll road and east of the 610) because of the trees and community-like feeling we've experienced when we visit. We are looking at both renting and buying...buying would depend on the house and we are willing to rent until we find the right house. Any insight is very much appreciated.

Great question!
Spring Branch is a great school district but it is divided by Interstate Hwy 10. It is truly like two different school districts (North and South). No difference in East/ West/Central. There are several nice properties in the Spring Branch area and I’ll be glad to email you some listings. Where are you moving from? How close to Houston (downtown) do you need to be? Cy-Fair ISD is also an excellent school district. It is in the NW part of town. Juan Carlos Wed Apr 23 2008, 15:52 Web Reference: http://www.har.com/jch

Even though you may drive a bit (we do have Metro park and rides out here)- Cy-Fair just can't be beat when it comes to public schools in the Houston area.

There are a number of excellent school districts in the Houston area. Check outhttp:// www.just4kids.org for an abundance of information on school districts and even individual campuses. The school's rating has some importance, but can also be misleading. My husband is an administrator in one of the area school districts and test scores and ratings are definitely something to consider, but they don't tell the entire story concerning any school or district. If the school is a major factor in your buying decision, talk to school personnel who are with that district. They should be very willing to help. If you have more questions, please feel free to email me. I'd be glad to help you find school information even if you don't buy in the area where I work! :-) Good luck!

Buying a home in exemplary schools is good investment. Simple because most parents are going to want to be in that school, hence resale is better. There are a number of questions that need to be answered, such as where are going to working and how far do you want to drive from your home.
Also, keep in mind most individuals usually sell and buy a new home every 5 - 8 years. Therefore, unless you have child now then the school may not be as important as in the future. With this said, buying in an exemplary district will help with resale. I would love to discuss this further you’d like to give me call. Wed Apr 23 2008, 06:50

Stay as far away from Spring ISD as you can it really is crappy. I'm a ARMY wife and hate it I have had nothing but problems here , your kids dont matter and the teachers dont teach. Check into a program called Texas Vitural Academy it is public school online I'm doing it for my younger kids and it rocks.

We moved here 2 years ago and did a lot of research. We chose Katy, TX. Green Trails is our subdivision. The school (most all of Katy schools) is AMAZING, friendly, and very warm. The neighborhood is full of trees and tons of parks, community pools, and kids everywhere to play with. Check it out!

Houston has several excellent suburban school districts to choose from, such as Ft. Bend ISD, Klein ISD, Cypress Fairbanks ISD and Spring Branch which you asked about. Depending on how much you want to spend on housing, we could assist you in locating something within your price range in any number of highly rated districts. There are also a number of additional heavily wooded areas as you go a little more NW of the Spring Branch area. Let me know more about where you will be working, etc. and your price range and I'll be better able to assist you and answer your questions.

You may want to lease via an extended stay hotel. If you sign a lease then find the house of your dreams or a great foreclosures you now stuck with a lease or locate a short term lease for 3 months at a time. It can take up to 60 -90 days.
If you are searching for a home you will need to be pre-approved for a loan. Welcome to Texas ! Thu Apr 10 2008, 10:49 Web Reference: http://www.lynn911.com
