Amelia,
All of the previous answers are excellent and you can learn much from the links that are posted in them. As a mother of five and a realtor, I not only have information on some of the area's top rated schools (St. Johns County and several other areas), but I also have much experience and knowledge of several of the parochial schools and the college prep schools. I would be happy to share my knowledge with you and hope you will take a minute to go to our website, http://www.thehayesteam1.com, click on the Community tab and access the Education Guide available there! Feel free to contact me with any questions. Good Luck and welcome (almost) to Jacksonville!
Hello Amelia
Jacksonville has many good schools at the elementary and middle school level. Since you asked for favorites two shools that come to mind are Sabal Palm Elementary http://www.duvalschools.org/spe/ and Landmark Middle http://www.duvalschools.org/landmark/. Both are located on Kernan Road and serve the intra-coastal and Ft caroline area. At the high school level Jacksonville has been making some improvements but still lags behind Clay & St Johns county schools in student performance ratings. To determine which school serves a particular home contact Duval County School Board at (904) 390-2000. If you would like to begin your home search on line please visit my web site where you can search local listings and learn more about all that Jacksonville has to offer. Welcome to Jacksonville!
Amelia, there are some excellent schools in the Jacksonville area. Fleming Island Elementary is one of the top 50 elementary schools in the nation according to a teacher friend of mine, as well as being a Blue Ribbon School, and Fleming Island Elementary and Cunningham Creek Elementary are the only two schools in Northeast Florida to have maintained an "A" grade from the Florida Department of Education every year since they opened (recently published in Florida Times Union). A favorite preschool is Grace Episcopal in Orange Park, Florida, which has been open for 50+ years. It was my privilege to be on the Board of Directors of Grace when they expanded to elementary school, so I know first hand the quality of the school. Fleming Island Elementary is in Eagle Harbor in Clay County and Cunningham Creek is in St. Johns County. You may search http://www.greatschools.net or http://schoolgrades.fldoe.org/ to check out our schools. There are many other 'A' rated schools in the area and wonderful pre-schools as well. If you would like more information, we would be happy to help you. 904-673-2308.
