The best elementary school I'd have to say would be Centennial. They have a very involved PTA, a great principal and teachers, and on greatschools.com, it was voted one of the best in PISD with a rating of 10. My daughter and my friend's daughter both attended this school and are some of the smartest kids I know.

As for middle schools, Centennial feeds into Renner, which surprisingly no one mentioned as a great school! I believe Renner is the best you can get when it comes to middle schools in Plano, for it has the best sports program in PISD (they're city champions almost every year) and their test scores are great. Renner has also been voted a Blue Ribbon School as well.

Plano, Texas, more than ranches and wide open spaces
It’s true that Plano, Texas, is home to acres and acres of ranches and wide open spaces but this diverse city has much to offer culturally, economically and intellectually too. In fact, Money magazine has voted Plano "The Best Place to live in the Western United States." Anyone interested in buying a home in Plano will be glad to know that the city is rich in the arts, has a strong economy and has schools which rank as some of the top in the country. So, if you’re interested in wide open opportunities, be sure to check out Plano, Texas.

Rice Middle School is the only Exemplary middle school in Plano. It has a great reputation, very active PTA, and wonderful teachers. My kids go to Wyatt Elementary which feeds into Rice Middle. We have been very happy with teachers and principal. Again the PTA is very active. A lot of stay-at-home moms. Our neighborhood Estates of Russell Creek has 2 community pools, lighted tennis courts, playground, and basketball court.

If you are interested in a house we are selling ours to move out to the country. I have no idea what your price range or requirements, but ours is 5/3.1/2 listed for $345K. It just listed today 8/6/08 and we will have an open house this Sunday, August 10th from 1-4 PM. Pictures are on the website.
Good luck with your search!

Hi Carly - On average, Plano has great schools. It just depends on what your price range is for the purchase of a home. Also, consider whether you want preowned or a new build. Browse our cutting edge website for lots of property pictures, neighborhood information, and things to do. There are quick links to properties by price ranges or neighborhoods. http://www.janusREgroup.com. We specialize in Allen, Frisco, and Plano properties and would be glad to help!

Check out my website for school reports. A lot is going to depend on your desired price range. Give me a call and I can explain the areas of Plano that are most desirable. School ratings can sometimes not tell you the whole story. It takes someone who has sold in Plano for years to help you find the best location.

I am not a realtor so my answer would not be a marketing pitch. I have lived in Plano for 10 years and my daughter went to Gulledge Elementary, Robinson MS and the the Plano High schools. I am very pleased with the schools. My daughter did very well and now is a Freshman at Harvard. This is the only reason we have our house on the market now and ready to move to Boston.

In my opinion as a mom and as a North Texas home owner you really can not go wrong with many of the areas in and around Plano. If you are set on Plano, come and visit and choose the area of town that you love the most, the kids will end up in a great school and you all will happy. I moved here from out of state and we had our hearts set on Plano at first. We ended up living in Frisco and our kids are in the Frisco ISD and we love it here. The schools in Plano, Frisco and McKinney are all rated well and they are all great areas to live in. I'd narrow your home search down to your top 10 favoite homes and then do the research on the schools.

This site is very useful to people relocating becasue it will not only give you information on schools in the area it will let you compare them to the one's that you may be using right now in other parts of the country. Just an FYI if you are searching on REALTOR.com and slide to the bottom of the property information page. the one that you see the most information on. You will find school names on the bottom right, there is also a button to get you demographics if you slide low enough. If you get the name of the school and then move to great schools.com you will learn even more. I am licensed in the area and would be pleased to help with your move. Plano, Frisco, and Allen school districts all serve areas of Plano. In my opinion the Frisco school district is the best. Anderson Elementary (a Frisco school, city of Plano) was just voted a top 10 Texas school by D magazine. They have also received national recognition. Fowler Middle just opened this year and I have heard nothing but good things about it. The high school is also new (2 years old). I would definately look into this area. Hope this helps!

By Top elementary you are thinking of higher TAKS scores and Exemplary, Acceptable and reconginzed? I have a TAKS rating for DFW area that I can email it to you. Right now the listing has only one middle school "Rice Middle" as THE only exemplary. There are plenty of exemplary elementary schools. You can contact me at belaintexas@yahoo.com
