MATES boundaries for attendance (old Meadows Elem boundaries)

Asked by Ablades2, Ventura, CA Tue Dec 31, 2013

I am looking to rent a home in the old Meadows Elementary boundaries, as I understand that is the only way to guarantee attendance to MATES. But what are those boundaries, and how can i find listings for RENTALS there. (I want to rent before i buy)

Hello Ablades2, here is a link for schools and everything you may question. http://www.greatschools.org/

You did not mention the number of bedrooms or the maximum payment your looking to achieve? The rentals in Thousand Oaks start from $1,650 for 2bd 2ba condo, $2,200 for 3bd 2ba single family home and $2,299 for 4bd 2ba single family home.

The purchase start from 169k for 1bdf 1ba townhouse, 219k for 2bd 1ba condo, 329k for 3bd 2ba condo and the single family homes start from 299k in Thousand Oaks.

Here are some blogs in RENT vs BUY options as you may qualify to buy with minimum out of pocket expenses and pay less than rent in many cities.

While I am pretty sure that you have priority if you live within the boundaries of the school, the rest would be admitted by a lottery.

The Old Meadows neighborhood would most likely be in the boundaries as it MATES was this neighborhood's homeschool before it became a Charter School. The Conejo Oaks neighborhood is also in that same category.

Admissions

2013-2014 School Year

MATES will admit new students in the current school year through February 14, 2013 as space permits. At this time, all grade levels are full with wait lists. Please contact the office if you would like to request an application.

The 2013-2014 wait lists will remain active until the close of open enrollment on February 13, 2013, after which time no further students will be enrolled. Wait listed applicants must then re-apply for the 2013-2014 year.

2014-2015 School Year

OPEN ENROLLMENT FOR THE 2014-2015 WILL OPEN ON JANUARY 6, 2014. WE WILL HOLD OUR ANNUAL ENROLLMENT LOTTERY ON MARCY 13, 2014. ANY APPLICATIONS RECEIVED AFTER FEBRUARY 13, 2014 WILL BE ADDED TO THE WAIT-LIST FOLLOWING THE LOTTERY.

New Students
To apply, please complete and submit an application for enrollment, student original birth certificate, student proof of immunization, and parent/guardian proof of residence. Parents of new students should plan to attend a school tour.

Proof of residence includes:

1. Two utility bills (gas, water, electric – not telephone, cable, trash, etc.); or
2. One utility bill and a driver’s license; or
3. Original, executed rental or lease agreement w/ utility bill to follow; or
4. Original executed escrow papers w/ utility bill to follow; or
5. Room rental or shared living (a letter from homeowner & utility bills and completed address verification form)

Returning Students

Returning MATES students are guaranteed enrollment the following school year. Please notify the school of your intentions by filling out and submitting a Returning Student Enrollment Notification form. If the school does not receive your form by the end of open enrollment (February 14, 2013), your children will lose their priority status and will be admitted on a first come first serve basis as space is available.

General

MATES is nonsectarian in its programs, admission policies, and all other operations. MATES is open to all students regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, perceived sexual orientation, home language, or disability. MATES shall admit all pupils who wish to attend the school up to capacity.

The MATES Board determines on a yearly basis the capacity for each grade level for the upcoming school year. Applications will be accepted during a publicly advertised open enrollment application period each year in winter or early spring for enrollment in the following school year.

Following the open enrollment period, applications are counted to determine which grade levels have received a quantity of applications that exceed that grade’s capacity. In the event that there are more applications for a grade level than available positions, MATES will hold a public random drawing to determine enrollment for the impacted grade level. Returning MATES students who notify the school before the end of the open enrollment period are guaranteed enrollment the following year and are exempt from the public random drawing.

Enrollment preferences in the case of a public random drawing are as follows:
1. Siblings of returning MATES students (2012-2013)
2. Students who reside within the former attendance area of Meadows Elementary School
3. Children of MATES employees
4. Students who reside within the attendance area of Conejo Valley Unified School District
5. Children of founding group members
6. All other pupils

Students will be admitted at the time of the public random drawing according to preference group as space permits. If there is insufficient capacity to fully enroll a specific preference group in its entirety, a random drawing of the applicants within the preference group will be performed to determine which applicants within that group will be offered enrollment.

Applicants not offered admission due to insufficient capacity will be given the option to put their name on a wait list, in order, according to their draw in the lottery. Applicants who complete the enrollment process after the open enrollment period are considered post-lottery applicants and will be offered enrollment only after all wait listed applicants from the open enrollment period have been exhausted and on a first come first serve basis. The wait list will remain active until the close of open enrollment for the following school year at which time no further students will be enrolled. Wait listed applicants may then re-apply for the following year.

Happy New Year and WELCOME to the Community!

You need to contact MATES to be sure you have an understanding of how their enrollment works. For example, even if you live in the MATES area, the grade level your children may attend could be full. It
appears they then go to a lottery system. I just looked in the MLS, and depending on your rental price range, there are not many homes in that area available at this time. Call the school first and then if you need assistance with a rental property, I would be more than happy to help you.
