Hello. We are interested in relocating to the Sarasota area within the next six months. Ideally, we are looking for a 4 bedroom/2 or 3 bath home with a max price of $350K - cash purchase.
The most important criteria for us is the best school system we can find for that money. We need a school district that can service our daughter who will be entering middle school and is autistic. We also have a 7 year old son with speech issues. We can be flexible on the size of the home, but not the school requirements!
Thank you in advance for any help that can be given.
When my husband and myself moved here 10 years ago from New England, our sons were ages 10,8, and 4. My oldest had an IEP which is an individual education plan. We moved this plan with us and the schools became our top priority. Sarasota has many great schools in total about 45 . Each offering something different. If you go onto my web site , http://www.SaraSellsSarasota.com and click the link that says , Sarasota Living and Links you will find the infomation about the schools. So far, I have two sons that graduated from the Sarasota School system and I have been very happy.
Good Luck,
Sara
When I moved to Sarasota from NY, the main concern was schools for my children, who were at the time 7 and 2 years old. They are now in the 11th and 5th grade, respectively. My 10 year old son receives speech therapy through his school.
I would be happy to discuss my experiences, thoughts and recommendations. Regina@Truesarasota.com Very best of luck to you.
Hello CBNY,
You've already received a treasure trove of information regarding the school system here in Sarasota. I would also like to add the following link http://www.greatschools.net. for you to review. My stepson who has a learning disability attended the Out-of-Door Academy and Cardinal Mooney H.S. and did very well at both.

Hi - I was an elected School Board member here in Sarasota County and my last child just graduated from high school I think I can help!
Florida has county wide school systems. There are no "districts" in Sarasota County. There are about 45 schools ( I think a new one just opened this week so I'm not sure the number!) You live in a school zone here and are assigned a school based on your address. The schools themselves all have one standard of services they are required to provide so you will find them all equal in that regard. Your children would need what is called an IEP (Individual Education Plan) that provides teachers with the information they need to teach your child and the accomodations they need to make so your child has success.
Because its a county wide system there are fewer people you need to access for information. There is a Director for children with developmental issues named Sonia Figaredo-Alberts who can give you the skinny on services here.
Hope that helps some! And when you're ready to get busy on finding homes I hope you'll let my husband (the active agent in the household!) make that happen for you!
