As a follow on to my previous answer, please understand that school attendance outside the geographical school is not exclusively due to special school programs, although that is the most typical basis for it. There can be other unique reasons.

However, the school system does try to weed out where a person picks a school outside their geographical area just because they prefer that school over the other. That is generally frowned upon. There needs to be a specific reason other than preference.

Hope this clarification helps.

All of the answers are basically accurate. You are assigned to specific schools based on the address.

However, there are exceptions, known as pupil placing. This would be if a specific school offered a specific program not available at another school. Examples would be elementary school language immersion programs, high school Advanced Placement courses, high school Academy programs, or some other special program.

This requires the concurrence of both principals and requires parents to provide transportation.

So, generally you must attend your geographical school, although there are exceptions.

Hi

Fairfax Co Public Schools, has a website, http://www.fcps.edu/fts/planning/boundaryinfo.shtml, that deals with which school your child would go to depending on the location of the property. If you have particular questions, I would get in touch with the Fairfax Co Schools office to see if they can provide you any insight.

Good luck!

Mamadocmel,

Is a little known fact that in Fairfax County your child can go to a different school than the one assigned based on the home location. The assigned school is NOT going to make it easy, on the contrary they will greatly discourage you, but it is possible (a neighbor of mine did it). It will be your responsibility to get your child/children to and from school since you would be out of the bus route.

The home on Camden St. is a beautifully updated mid century treasure and totally ready to move in (been inside).

Feel free to contact me if you are interested to visit this home or if you wish to receive automated listings directly from the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) as they come to the market.

http://boundary.fcps.edu/boundary/ This link is very helpful for identifying the school that serves any address you may come across, but in my experience they don't readily allow you to choose a different school. In some cases the school you prefer may even be located closer to the house than the one assigned to the address. best of luck!

No. School districts are assigned to addresses. If you're searching for a home in a particular school district you might want to check out the link below.
